Primary Torsion of Omentum

Abstract
Between February 1967 and December 1969, 260 cases laparotomies were performed at Our Lady
of Perpeptual Hopital under the prospective diagnosis of acute appendicitisl One case which was
primary torsion of omentum was found. The primary torison of omentum is still relatively rare,
but we are sure that there have been many small series of unreported case. There are many etiol
ogic theroies, none of which is entirely satisfactory. The clinical picture is indistinguishable from
acute appendicitis. Clues at Surgery are the presence of serosanguinous fluid and mesenterial lym
phadenopathy. Accurate preoperative diagnosis is extremely difficult and of no practical value since
these cases are generally diagnosed as acute appendicitis which makes laparotomy. Treatment of
these conditions is resection of the involved omentum, and now prognosis is good.
